A little catch up

I’m gonna work backwards!

Tonight:  We met my mom and step-dad out for dinner here, they came to town for an Oakridge Boys concert. ELVIRA!!! No pictures though…

Sunday: We went grocery shopping at the “fancy” Wal-mart, which was very exciting. Our Wal-mart by our house is just terrible, so if we have the chance to drive a few extra miles and hit the nice one, we do it! We piddled around most of the rest of the day, watching Nascar, Elmo, and playing outside.

Saturday: We put off going to the grocery store, so we didn’t do a whole lot of anything. We managed to visit Aunt Christie for her BD and then go over to G&P’s house to play in their backyard for a little while in the evening. We were headed to the park, but we got lazy and decided to just stop there, lol.

Friday: I can’t think of what we did on Friday…nothing of importance I guess.

Thursday: Same story as Friday…nothing that I can remember. It’s sad really.

Wednesday: Janet, Jakie and Christina came over. We visited with them, and we tried out Just Dance on the Wii. It’s such a fun game, and it’s also good exercise. Emily and William really like it when Jakie and Christina come over to play and it’s so fun to see them being able to really interact now…like they are really little kids together. It’s cool…but sad at the same time, because it means they are getting OLDER!!!

Big kid beds are going alright. Bedtimes are getting easier, so that’s good. I have no idea what the time change next week will bring, but I’ll worry about that then. The only really hard thing is naptime on the weekends….it’s just not going well at all. We try for over an hour to get them to stay in their beds. We pop their bottoms. We yell. We are firm. We are soft and lovey. We rub heads. We sit in the middle of the floor and say Shhh, EHHH, if they talk. We sing. We ignore. But…so far napping in big kid beds is getting the best of us. This weekend, the other side won, we did not. Next weekend is a new weekend though, and a new try. We are just doing the best that we can. And like I pray every night “ God, Please let Mama and Daddy be good parents to Emily and William. Please give us strength and wisdom and the ability to make good decisions. And please let Emily and William know that we love them very much.” That’s all I can really ask for!

Happy Monday!

Pre-post change

Well, I was just sitting down to write about how uneventful the day has been. I had to work late tonight, so I only saw the babies for about 1.5 hours. We did baths, watched Wheel of Fortune, and cleaned up the toys and that’s been about it. No pictures. I layed them down for bed, explaining that tonight would NOT be a repeat of last night, the one hour and 20 minute bedtime. I put them down, went back in once, and then…I didn’t hear much. Until…I heard a loud thud, and I noticed that the light was on in their room. Mistake number one – forgetting to tape the light switch down.

Just for the record, the room did not look like this when I layed them down. And they certainly do not sleep in shoes and/or boots.

I’m just hoping they get used to this big kid bed soon…I’m very ready. So what does everyone else do? Door open or shut? When the unnamed child gets up and out of bed, do you say anything? Discipline? Calmly explain that it’s bedtime? If they continually do it, then what? When I hear them, should I let them talk and play and then only when it gets unruly, go in? I have so many questions….and soooo few answers. Suggestions and/or advice is appreciated!

Happy Tuesday!

Home Sweet Home…

I might post date some posts about our trip to WR, but I’m not sure it’ll be tonight. I am tired from being out of town and ready to get settled back in. So far, it’s been 30 mins since I layed the twins down and they are still going strong. I guess they have reverted back to night #1 in their big kid beds, since they’ve been sleeping in pack and plays while we’ve been OOT. *sigh*  Lovely. We had a good trip though, visited with family and I think everyone had a good time.

Happy Monday!

Trip to ER and GA

Wednesday night Emily ended up in the Urgent Care center, and then was referred to the ER for her cat bite. I got home from work on Wednesday, after Billy had her all day, and her arm was bright red, swollen, and she had a high fever. So since the dr’s office was already closed, I had no choice but to do after-hours things. What a mess!!! I don’t even want to re-tell the story, but let’s just say after about 7 hours and 2 places, we decided Emily was fine to wait until the morning. Which she was. I took her first thing on Thursday morning, she has antibiotics now, her arm looks better, and we have instructions to watch it closely. All in all though, she is fine.

We also left for WR tonight and had a fairly uneventful ride. We have made the trip to celebrate Aunt Manda’s 24th BD, AKA my little sister. We’ll be here until Monday! Wish us well!

Buns, buns and more buns

Every place wants to give you a bun! For someone with Celiac, that’s not an option. I really shouldn’t be giving my children fast food hamburgers anyway, I realize that. And I really shouldn’t be giving my Celiac child a fast food hamburger for cross contamination issues. But from time to time, I do anyway. Tonight was one of those nights. I had to get my oil changed, so once I got home, I changed clothes and we headed out to the Honda place to do the oil change and eat while we were there…which involved fast food.

We started at McDonald’s. The drive thru was closed for maintenance. Okkkk……

Then we move on to Krystal. I order my and William’s food and then I request a couple of burgers with no bun. Silence. Then, what Mam? I need 3 cheeseburgers, with no bun. We can’t do that mam, our burgers come on buns. Huh?!!??! You mean to tell me that you don’t cook your burgers on a grill of some kind and then put them on the bun? No mam, we would just have to peel the bun off. I can make the burger plain though. *sigh* No, that’s fine, I’ll just take what I’ve already ordered.

Move on to Dairy Queen…which they can give me a bunless hamburger, but I had to repeat my order 5 times. 5 times…what do not understand?!?! I don’t want a BUN! Anyway, we finally got our greasy, unhealthy food and headed to Honda.DSCN1818DSCN1819DSCN1820

Since our baby-sitter and her hubby are sick, we are keeping the babies at home this week. Billy had them today and has them tomorrow. I may have mentioned the stray cat that Billy likes to feed and pet and occasionally sneak in the house, even though he is very very allergic to all pets. Today him and the babies were outside on the porch and they were petting the kitty and she turned around sunk her teeth into Emily’s arm!

I couldn’t get my camera to cooperate to take these pics, but they are as good as I could get. Needless to say, Billy will NOT be speaking to, or feeding, that cat anymore that she bit his precious angel. Hopefully the bite will be fine and there won’t be any nastiness or infection, we’re going to watch it carefully. That has been out Tuesday! So far, toddler bed night 4 is going so-so…25 mins, still awake and getting out of bed…hopefully they will settle down soon! Happy Tuesday!

Day three

So far, pretty good. I layed them down at 7:55 tonight…several escapes and many tears later…about 25 mins…silence. Hopefully it will be a good night. Last night went fine. William fell right asleep, I think because he didn’t nap well, and after Emily got out of bed once, she went right on too. This is what I saw this morning:

Yesterday after our nap fiasco, Billy made dinner and then decided to have movie night out on our porch. The weather just felt so nice it was hard to NOT be outside. So he made popcorn and put in Shrek. Please don’t chastise me if popcorn is still a choking hazard. I wasn’t sure, but we watched them closely to ensure they didn’t choke during the opening credits. This lasted all of about…7 minutes. Poor Billy, he wanted to have family time, and the babies were just not really into sitting for long periods of time. After a little while, we abandoned the idea and took a bath instead!

Here’s to a Happy Monday night! Keep your fingers crossed that we don’t get Rotavirus at this house…their sitter thinks that she has it and they went there today. They will be staying home with Daddy tomorrow and I’m just praying that the bug didn’t make its way home today, eek!

5K day

As of 1:40pm, they have been laying down for 40 mins, and this is what we have seen so far. They are still wide awake....we are in for a hard job I think!
I was supposed to be running/walking a 5K today. We went to the location, and we were running late, we weren't sure where to pick up my "chip" so we decided to do nature trails instead. We had a nice time though, the trail was about 1.5 miles and the babies walked most of the way, playing with sticks, looking for animals and making sure alligators didn't "eat babies." It was a nice way to start out the morning...now, if only afternoon naps would go ahead and begin, we can have a nice e
